A case of steroids induced gastric ulcer bleeding, was experienced recently and corrected by surgical treatment with satisfactory results.
The patient 44 years old male was admitted to the department of surgery via the emergency room on July 4th, 1969 because of hematemesis and melena a few times for 2 days.
The patient was given cortisone 100 mg daily and prednisolone 20mg t.i.d per oral for 3 days, due to rheumatoid arthritis on right knee joint, and then, above chief complaints was developed abruptly.
On physical examination, patient was semi comatose, pale, abdominal muscular rigidity on -upper abdomen and diminished bowel sound.
After pumping transfusion of 4 pints whole blood, emergency operation was done partial gastrectomy and gastrojejunostomy.
On exploratory gastrotomy, an ulcer (O. 5 >< 0.5cm in diameter) in antrum associated with 2 neighboring minute ulcers covered with blood clots was found. The patient was discharged on 12th hospital day uneventfully.
